Dungeon Defenders is a 4 player co-op tower defense. You may pick from a number of different classes such as: Squire, Champion etc. and there is even more with the DLC packs. Upon picking your own class you can customize it a bit by choosing the colors of its outfit. You also will find and/or buy many different types of gear in the game, whether it be armor or weapons. Which you then can upgrade many different levels. Max level on a item allows you to name the item whatever you want. What I am getting at is that there is a lot of content and freedom to do what you want with that content in this game.
The game is far from short, you have plenty of main levels, plus other modes that involve PVP. Like Capture the Flag and more. They also have some 8 player co-op maps which are a blast if you can get 8 people together. What this game really does best is it takes a tower-defense game, makes it very user friendly and allows you to play with 3 of your friends. It is truly addictive and one of my favorite titles of 2011.
How it works is there is a set of rounds and each round you may build/upgrade different types of towers (you unlock more as you level up). Each class has their own set of towers and powers. Making everyone's help needed to pull off some of the tougher maps. Every level up you get, you will gain stat points which you can put into a number of things, including: Attack Damage, Casting Rate or even upgrade the stats on your towers making them even stronger and faster.
The gameplay works like a hack and slash with a few abilities for each class. A lot of the strategy revolves around tower building and placement. Upgrading those towers, healing them or selling to make room for better ones. As you level up you will gain better towers and like I said before you will gain stat points for your character.
Leveling up becomes very addicting as well as the whole game in general. It is one of the most fun co-op games I ever played. It does have its flaws but they are minor and won't distract from a yet simple, but very fun game to play with a few friends.
You also have a place to store weapons and armor you pick up off enemies called "Item Box" you can either keep these items for yourself, give them to a friend, or sell them. Either straight to the "Bank" or you can make your own Shop. Where other players can join your server to browse your collection and buy what they wish. This makes for a great community piece as well as a lot of re-playability. There is also a Pet system that any class can be part of. You may purchase a pet from the store to help you fight. You may also upgrade this pet to become stronger.
As for the graphics, they aren't anything special but they are fair from ugly. I actually think they are perfect for what the game is and not only that but you also don't need a very powerful PC (If you are playing on the PC). But if you still can't run it, it is also available on consoles too.
Bottom Line: Dungeon Defenders isn't a perfect game but it is without a doubt one of the best co-op games I've ever played. Building towers, selling items, leveling up. There is a ton to do in this game, especially with extra game modes, which includes PVP type modes too. They are also adding a lot of good looking DLC so be on the look out for pre-order offers. If your looking for a fun 4 player co-op game, then this is a perfect choice for you and your friends.
